A WALK THROUGH CENTURIES OF HISTORY

  • Loutropoli Thermis
The healthy climate of the region and the hot springs (hence the name Thermi, which means ‘warm’ in Greek), have always attracted visitors. Goddess Artemis Thermia was worshipped in this healing spot. Starting point is Paralia with the course running along the seashore until it reaches the other, much older settlement of Prehistoric Thermi, one of the most populated places in Lesvos, today organised into an archaeological site one can visit. Inside the olive groves, Pyrgoi Thermis (The Towers of Thermi) with the scattered tower houses of the past and the special Christian sanctuaries are crowned by Panagia Trouloti. A Byzantine church with murals in two layers and recessed marble plates with sculpted scenes. At Loutropolis Thermis (The Bath City of Thermi) the trekkers will admire a restored whole tower house and they can have refreshments at the coffee shops of the Agora. Descending, the Trail ends at the historical bath therapy facilities at Paralia (Beach).
