With stone built houses and narrow, cobblestoned, stepped little streets impossible to cross by car, Sykamia is one of the first listed traditional settlements in Greece. Home of literature writer Stratis Myrivilis author of the novel ‘The Mermaid Madonna’ in which he narrates the hardship and the settlement of the Asia Minor refugees above the small harbour that was to become today’s Skala Sykamias. The Trail for walking down to Skala goes through the crop-producing olive grove, with long stretches on the old stone path paved with white marble, until it reaches the shore. After the harbour with the Panagia Gorgona chapel and over the pebbles, the Trail goes past the small hill and ends up at the Kagia Beach.
